‘The Salesman’ grosses $10 million in global sales

Iranian Oscar-winning film ‘The Salesman’ grosses at least $10 million in global sales.

Iranian Oscar-winning film ‘The Salesman’ by Asghar Farhadi has grossed at least $10 million in global sales.

The Iranian blockbuster has grossed $2.3 million in the United States alone, thanks in part to winning the Best Foreign Language Film during this year’s Academy Awards ceremony as well as distribution sales by Cohen Media Group since January 27.

The film is currently playing on screen in 115 cinemas across the US.

Released in 18 other countries, the film has earned $3.9 million in subsequent nations. Excluding the United States, France comes in first in terms of sales with $1.84 million, followed by Italy ($828,000), Spain ($564,000), Greece ($224,000) and the UK ($110,000).

‘The Salesman’ is expected to surpass ‘The Past’, another movie by Farhadi, as the record holder of an Iranian film for global sales. The latter film earned $10.6 million worldwide in 2014.

After winning two awards in Cannes Film Festival last May, ‘The Salesman’ was released in Iran and became the all-time bestseller in the country, taking in $4.2 million at the box-office.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s latest work brought home the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film during the 89th edition of the Academy Awards in February.

Total box office sales of ‘The Salesman’ in Iran, the US and 18 other countries has crossed $10 million, a rare achievement for a production from Iran.

Many Iranian movies have collected several prestigious international awards in recent years, however, they have not been able to enter the international market quite as easily.

‘The Salesman’ is scheduled to be released in six more countries, including Denmark, Hong Kong, Poland and Japan, and will soon break the record of ‘The Past’ to grab the title of bestseller movie from Iran both domestically and overseas.
